“I began working with Lisa four years ago when I found myself falling back into the bulimic routine that defined my early adolescence and teenage years. “After working together for over two years, it’s completely safe to say that Lisa Mikus changed my life.

I’ve always been interested in eating more nutritiously, but I didn’t know how to begin. I grew up in a home with heavy meals. Snacking on chips and candy was the way we learned to “self-care;” we had soda with every meal. Though I appreciate growing up without hearing messages like “a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips,” I knew that I’d have to relearn nutrition and my relationship with my body as an adult. I couldn’t have done this without Lisa’s kind, holistic approach and expertise.

I appreciate most that our sessions are not solely about my eating habits. Lisa always starts by asking me about what’s going on in my life and how I’m handling some of everyday life’s stressful situations. Before working with Lisa, my weight and eating habits were drastically up and down. I’d lose weight when my anxiety was at super high levels, and I had no appetite, or I’d gain weight from stress eating and comforting myself with food. By examining why I’d turn to these patterns and finding ways to calm myself without turning to my old coping mechanisms, Lisa has taught me how to care for myself, both with food and other self-soothing methods feel better without the habits that make me feel worse.
